Ashley & Carlos
You know I will do almost anything for my couples. Even if that means driving 4-5 hours for their engagement session because, why not? Ashley and Carlos are a pretty go with the flow type couple. They knew that they wanted to do their session somewhere in Traverse City, Michigan but weren't exactly sure where. Through much deliberation we decided on this waterfront spot and it was just as amazing as you could imagine. Even though it was a 4-5 hour trip, it was well worth it (once you see the photos, you'll see why). I brought along my friend on this road trip and we ended up having such a fun time driving up, that the drive really didn't even seem to be that long!
snowy waterfront engagement
Now you may or may not recognize this location for Ashley and Carlos' engagement session. It's actually the same location where I took some wedding portraits for Leslie & Michael for their wedding, which I have blogged in the past! If you want to take a read, click here! It looks a little bit different because of the snow, but I can assure you that this is indeed the same area. We arrived at Old Mission Point in Traverse City, Michigan. Ashley wore this red patterned coat which I thought contrasted with all of the snow in the background perfectly. Now remember when I said that Ashley and Carlos were very "go with the flow"? Well I mean that. They pretty much let me creativity lead the entire session and had me decide on whatever I felt would look best which was such a breath of fresh air. Don't get me wrong, I love the fully planned out session but sometimes being able to be spontaneous and go with the flow is nice! One of Old Mission Point's main attractions in the Mission Point Lighthouse so naturally we had to take a few photos in front of that as well. It's at this point that I was thinking about how many people really dislike shooting in the winter weather but Old Mission Point was just too beautiful to not admire.
engagement photos at chateau chantel
Now Traverse City is known for two things: cherries and their wine. After finishing up by the beach, we headed to Chateau Chantel which is a winery where Ashley and Carlos were staying and it was just BEAUTIFUL. The winery is located on a hill on the peninsula so you can see beautiful water views surrounding the property and it was just to die for. Even though the view was incredible, it was TERRIBLY cold. Even more cold than being down by the water surprisingly and if I'm being dramatic... it felt like we were in Antarctica. Outside of the winery we did a quick champagne pop to celebrate the newly engaged couple before heading into their hotel room. Our fingers were turning numb while being outside, so being out there for a few minutes was all we really needed - lol. We finished off their engagement session with them sharing a bottle of wine overlooking the beautiful views from their hotel room. This really turned out to be one of my favorite engagement sessions of all time and even though it was freezing, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I am so excited to be photographing their wedding later this year in December!
