Should You have a Destination Wedding?

One of the best things about weddings is that they can happen just about anywhere. Your backyard, a beautiful event space, or even on top of the mountains. Your wedding can even take place in the most stunning of destinations. You know, the ones that you have pinned on your Pinterest board for ages? There are so many reasons why you should you have a destination wedding, however, where do you even start?

What is a destination wedding?

Before deep diving, you first have to know what exactly is a destination wedding. Oftentimes when people think of a destination, they think of jetting off to a far-off place. Italy, France, Switzerland, Bahamas, are what come to mind when you think of a destination wedding. However, a destination wedding is not always jetting off halfway across the world to get married. While those locations can be considered destination, a destination wedding is a wedding that takes place outside of where you currently live. This could be a few hours away, the next state over, or in another country. A destination wedding is essentially anywhere BUT where you live.

benefits to having a destination wedding

When it comes to having a destination wedding, there are several benefits. Many of them you've probably thought of and some of them maybe never even crossed your mind.

it can be an adventure

One of the most common reasons why so many couples opt for a destination wedding is the adventure aspect. Exploring a new place, trying new things, and tying the knot with your best friend all in one? SIGN ME UP. For many couples, this is all they need to say Y-E-S. Having a destination wedding is the perfect excuse to step outside your comfort zone, experience new things and cultures and really elevate your entire wedding experience. If you've been wanting to travel but can never find the "time" to do it, what better excuse than to get married and jet off to some place new?

narrow down your guest list

If you’re someone who’s having some trouble narrowing down your guest list, a destination wedding may just be what you need. While we all want to invite everyone meaningful in our lives, sometimes this can get very expensive. Expenses like food, transportation, and other accommodations can rack up depending on the number of guests attending. With a destination wedding, you're essentially narrowing down your guest list to those who can afford to travel for your big day. Unfortunately, with a destination wedding, not everyone will be able to come, but it does help out in minimizing your guest list.

If you do decide to have a destination wedding where not all of your friends and family can join, you can always opt to have a wedding reception/dinner party when you get back. That way you are still able to jet off to your destination wedding, but can still celebrate with all of those who are near and dear to you.

honeymoon + Destination wedding in one trip

Another reason why so many couples choose to have a destination wedding is that it gives you the chance to have your wedding day and honeymoon all in one place. While the expenses for this wedding may seem a bit more extravagant than a traditional wedding, in the end, it all pans out especially if you honeymoon in your dream location. It ends up saving you some money in the long-run and being a much more cost-effective option. You’re able to get married, and enjoy that newlywed life without even having to check out of your room/hotel!

flexibility with your wedding venues

When you're in the beginning stages of wedding planning, you are most likely searching for that dream wedding venue. However, sometimes finding that perfect wedding venue can seem impossible. There are so many options, but they are either not quite what you want or way out of budget. A destination wedding is a perfect way to broaden your horizons and get your absolute dream venue. You’re able to expand your search scope and find a wedding venue that checks every box you’re looking for.

your photos will be epic

Okay, so I’m not saying you can’t get some pretty epic photos all within the comfort of your own hometown or state. What I am saying though is that there are a lot more opportunities for some amazing photos when you choose a location with some great views. Whether it be exploring the mountains or trekking through the redwood forest, you can almost guarantee to get some pretty amazing photos.

Should You Have A Destination Wedding?

Now, I don’t know if I’ve convinced you just yet but hopefully, you have considered some more options when it comes to your wedding day. These are just a few of the many reasons why I love destination weddings and why I think you should have be inclined to plan one yourself. In turn, having a destination wedding may just create the most once-in-a-lifetime experience ever.
