Teagan & Casey
Let me just preface this by saying that I have been to a bunch of weird and different places. One of the best parts of my job is getting to travel around and explore new places, so for the most part, I am down for just about anything. When it came time for Teagan and Casey's shoot, I never would have guessed that we would enter one of the most unique, fascinating, and at times creepy locations I have ever been to.
Salvation Mountain // calipatria, california
Now you're probably wondering, what is this creepy and unique place we ventured off to. I present to you... Salvation Mountain. Salvation Mountain is located in Calipatria, California. The reason that this is seen as such a one of a kind location, is that it is a man-made mountain build in the middle of the desert. Leonard Knight built this mountain for the sole purpose of sharing his message with the world. His message being "God is love, accept Jesus into your heart, repent your sins, and be saved". It took 28 years to build Salvation Mountain and get this... was built with half a million gallons of latex paint. What originally was a small mountain of dirt and painted cement eventually was built into what the mountain is today. There is so much history and work that went into the making of Salvation Mountain and honestly I would be here until Christmas trying to talk about all of the details. Today, Salvation Mountain is open and available for people to visit and originally used to host a museum dedicated to the creation of this location. However, currently, the museum remains closed but the outer perimeters of the large latex paint mountain is still frequently visited. This truly is a one-of-a-kind location and while a bit eery at times, was definitely one worth remembering... that's for sure.
Salvation Mountain California Couples Session
Despite the insane location we were in, that didn't stop us from our goal which was to get some bomb photos. All throughout Salvation Mountain there were several props available for us to use, one being this car covered in "grafitti". I put that in quotations seeing that to some this is art and to some they could view it as grafitti. We started off having Teagan and Casey take some photos with the old car. These two looked like they belonged in a 70's magazine just by their outfits and how well they played the role. With all of the bright colors surrounding us at Salvation Mountain, it really did give off those groovy 70's vibes. This shoot was done mid-day so the lighting was more harsh than what I typically work with but it still was just as beautiful. Salvation Mountain is definitely a location if you're looking to have some fun and different photos, that's for sure your spot.
