Kevin & Lucia
You may or may not remember Kevin and Lucia’s engagement session that I photographed a while back. If you haven’t read that blog you definitely should, just click here! We had been waiting for so long and through the months of planning we finally made it to their wedding day and we couldn't have been more excited.
We started off with Lucia getting ready at their venue space, The Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, Michigan. She was an absolutely gorgeous bride-to-be and I also couldn’t get over all of the bridesmaids and their matching robes as well. Before getting ready, Kevin & Lucia exchanged letters to each other so her reading it was definitely a teary eyed moment. She slipped on her dress and I just about died at how beautiful she was. I had never photographed a dress as sleek and elegant as hers but it fit her perfectly and we were ALL in shock. When it comes to your wedding day, you really can make it your own. Some brides may decide to do a first look and others may not and whichever you choose just know that the day is completely yours. For Lucia, she decided to do a first look with her bridesmaids and these are always so much fun to watch. Keep in mind that it was the middle of November so we all were trying to keep warm, but nonetheless the show went on. While Lucia was getting ready, Kevin was also getting ready in a different room at the same venue. He looked extremely dapper and I just couldn't wait to see his reaction to seeing Lucia for the first time.

Since Kevin and Lucia decided not to do a first look before the ceremony, the anticipation and excitement was building to this very moment. There were some restrictions when it came to photographing their ceremony at their venue, so that’s why I was so thankful to have a second photographer with me. For any of you couples in the middle of planning your wedding, this is one of the many reasons why your photographer may suggest a second photographer! The second photographer is able to capture different angles & moments so that nothing goes uncaptured and missed. Keep that in mind when you’re looking to book your wedding photography coverage! The ceremony was just as beautiful as you could have imagined and the church space had so much beautiful decor & architecture. The pius in the church were actually facing the center aisle which made for a large aisle for Lucia to walk down with her dad and to make sure she was the center of attention. Which she was.
Kevin & Lucia had a traditional wedding ceremony, so by this time the sun had basically set. After the ceremony was over and before we took some family photos, I was able to sneak away with the newlyweds to the courtyard for some blue hour portraits. Let me tell you, even though we had about 5 minutes to take some wedding portraits before we lost all light, it was SO worth it. The fall foliage paired beautifully with Lucia’s gorgeous bouquet and it all turned out so perfectly. I love it when moments like this happen, even if they are just for a short period of time we make it work!
Once we finished taking some portraits and cocktail hour was over, it was officially party time. The Inn at St. Johns had this beautiful atrium with glass ceilings and it was on another level of beautiful. By the time the reception came around, the sun had already set so to counteract any darkness, string lights were strung across the ceiling and there were a ton of candles. It almost reminded me of a scene from Beauty and the Beast. When Kevin and Lucia arrived, they were greeted by their wedding guests with tons of flower petals celebrating the newlyweds. Those flower petals were then draped across the dance floor as Kevin and Lucia did their first dance together as husband & wife.
Sometimes... actually more often than I'd like to admit, I end up tearing up/crying at my couples weddings. I can't help myself though, everything about their day just makes my heart swoon. As soon as Lucia's dad made his speech, I began crying. So be prepared to see me wiping a few tears behind my camera, it's a given! Maybe tissues should be a wedding favor? Just kidding! Later into the night, I was notified of a very special secret thanks to Lucia's mom. Lucia had planned an outfit change for the second half of the reception that not even I knew about! It was such a surprise and Kevin was definitely surprised to see his beautiful bride in another gorgeous dress. We spent the rest of the night dancing, laughing and eating some really good food & drinks thanks to Hello! Ice Cream and Cappuccino Man. Even though I stayed a little bit later than we intended, it was so incredibly worth it to experience such love and joy. Congrats Kevin & Lucia!!
