Mikenzie & Kelly
I actually spoke with Mikenzie and Kelly for the first time early last year. Due to some change of plans and some rearranging, they actually booked me for their wedding for Summer 2022. For Mikenzie and Kelly’s session, we made our way to one of my favorite parks here in Michigan, Kensington Metro Park.
The main thing that Mikenzie and Kelly really wanted to highlight during their engagement photos were wild flowers. Luckily for us, Kensington Metro Park was just blooming with flowers so it was the perfect time for us to shoot. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the outfits that these two wore? They coordinated perfectly with the location, each other and it really was the perfect definition of good engagement photo outfits.
After soaking up all of the gorgeous scenery and wild flowers, we made our way to a section of the park where there was a large street opening. We really played around with lighting and even were able to use car headlights as props to get some amazing shots and play with shadows. Although a big reminder, ALWAYS watch out for cars because there were definitely several instances in which we had to run out of the way for cars coming. Always have a lookout!
What to Wear to your Engagement Photos?
If you’re ever struggling on what to wear to your engagement session, have no fear! While there are many different options and you’re probably struggling through your wardrobe, here are a few tips to help get you through the madness.
- Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in: The last thing you want is to be wearing clothes that you don’t feel yourself in. I wouldn’t recommend wearing items of clothing that you don’t normally wear, solely for the purpose of engagement photos. The reason is because the camera ALWAYS picks up how you’re feeling and if you look uncomfortable. Wear what you want and wear what you feel comfortable - trust me you will feel a LOT better.
- When in doubt, go neutral: While on an everyday basis patterns & neons may be your go-to, in photos those don’t always translate as well. When in doubt, stick with neutrals, cooler tones and less distracting patterns to help put more of the focus on you than what you’re wearing!
- Coordinate but don’t match: Matching outfits has become an outdated practice and can actually end up hurting your photos! Wearing complementary colors helps you look put together but isn’t distracting!
I had such an amazing time with Mikenzie and Kelly for their engagement photos and I am so excited for their wedding coming up this Summer. They even decided to hire one of my good friends, Cassie from Northern Native, which I am so excited for. Be on the lookout for when that blog post comes out because I just know it’s going to be epic.
