Leslie & Michael
From co-workers to lovers, Leslie and Michael went from colleagues to love birds ready to tie the knot. You may recognize them from their engagement session that I blogged a while back. If you haven't read that, you definitely should - just click here! I actually met Leslie through a friend of mine back in HS who is actually her cousin, so when she inquired to work with me I couldn't have been more excited. We have been working together for quite some time trying to make sure that their wedding day was absolutely perfect. Well, when the time finally came I can assure you that it definitely was.
getting ready at Airbnb's
To start off the day, I actually started with Michael and his groomsmen first! If you notice some special details, Michael had Leslie's face imprinted onto his socks. Now if that's not love, I don't know what is LOL! Michael and his groomsmen actually rented out a really nice Airbnb out in the woods and I swear the driveway took us 5 minutes to drive down. I spent the first portion of the day photographing Michael and his groomsmen get ready and even got to snag a few photos of their hairless cat (scroll down to see).
Next, I drove over to where Leslie and her bridesmaids were getting ready which was another Airbnb. Honestly though, this was a DREAM Airbnb. The decor was absolutely breathtaking and was so beautiful that I really wanted to showcase every bit of it's beauty in their photos. Of course we had to get the classic bridesmaids photos of them + the bride wearing their matching PJ's which is always a fun time. After getting the typical smiley photos, it's usually at this time that I ask the bridesmaids to go in a circle and name one thing that they love about the bride. This usually brings in the waterworks and is a time to relive old memories and I just love being able to capture the connection that everyone has with one another.
ceremony at Saint francis catholic church
After everyone was done doing their final touches, we left the Airbnb and headed to the ceremony location! Leslie and Michael had their ceremony at St. Francis Catholic Church here in Traverse City, Michigan. Prior to walking down the aisle, Michael gave Leslie a letter for her to read which was such a special moment for her. It's always at this time that the feels start setting in and you realize like "wow... I'm doing this". It can be pretty impactful and emotional... I may or may not be tearing up while writing this... Leslie and Michael also opted out of a first look and decided to have that surprise moment as Leslie walked down the aisle. The anticipation had definitely been built up and was incredibly high at this point so we were all just waiting for the big reveal!
The ceremony was much like any traditional ceremony and the church was absolutely beautiful inside. You may not have been able to notice, the the lighting was fairly dark but thanks to my powerful editing skills (shoutout Lightroom), I was able to bring everything back to life!
After the ceremony, we gathered up the entire wedding party and headed onto their means of transportation. Can you guess what it was? A trolley! Shoutout to Traverse City Wine and Beer Tours for hooking us up with such a fun ride! While I have nothing against a party bus, the trolley definitely won some points for innovativeness and creativity - that's for sure. The trolley took us on a 40 or so minute drive to a beach that Leslie really wanted to go to for her portraits (Old Mission Pointe Park). Even though it was slightly sprinkling at moments during our ride, we were having so much fun inside the trolley that nobody seemed to really mind. Once we arrived at the beach there was still a bit of rain, so Leslie and Michael made sure to bring some clear umbrellas, which reminds me of something. ALWAYS BE PREPARED ON YOUR WEDDING DAY. While we can all hope for the best in terms of weather, unfortunately that is something completely out of our control. Whether it be umbrellas or other types of props, always be prepped and ready for anything because trust me, it can be so worth it in the end.
MICHIGAN WEDDING Reception AT BRENGMAN BROTHERS WINERY
After finishing up some portraits on the beach, we headed back onto the trolley because it was time to make our way to the reception location! L+M had their reception at Brengman Brothers Winery which was just an amazing spot for them. The winery offers an intimate and charming vineyard setting for guests to have the experience of a lifetime and it truly was. The decor and details for their reception were seriously next level. One of my favorite little details they had were actually the table numbers. On each table there were numbers and photos of Leslie and Michael at that age! An example being: at table 3 were two photos of Leslie and Michael at age 3. I just thought this was such a cute details that they added that really made their day that much more special. The attention to detail was just immaculate and it really tied everything that they wanted into one.
In the middle of the reception, I was able to sneak L+M into the vineyards to take a few more portraits. I even got to play around a bit with my prism filters which always adds so much character and depth into photos so I love having that handy on wedding days. We made our way back inside and let me say... I am going to need to take some pointers from these wedding guests because how they were moving on the dance floor was just unreal. Leslie is actually a dancer so a lot of her friends are dancers as well, which made for a pretty epic dance floor. I may need to brush up on my dancing skills next time just in case someone challenges me to a dance battle! We ended the night off with some speeches, cake cutting and more dancing before packing my bags and heading home. A truly unforgettable day with some amazing people, I am so honored to have been there for Leslie and Michael. Cheers to you both!
