why do an in-home session?

Let's talk in-home sessions. Now as many of you may know, I am a BIG fan of in-home sessions. Not only are they great during the chillier months but it's also something unique & different. To a lot of you, you may be thinking "omg I could never have someone take photos of my home" or "my home's too messy"... let me stop you right there. While yes, I always recommend a small cleanup before a photoshoot (don't want a bunch of crumbs laying around) - your in-home session is just that. Your home! It doesn't matter what it looks like, the type of furniture you have, what's hanging on the walls or the dog hair nestled in your rug. It shows you and that's what matters. The last thing I want is for anyone to feel like their home is "inadequate" for an in-home session because trust me... we ALWAYS can make it work. For me, I believe that the purpose of in-home sessions is to show that "lived in" feel. Showcase you, your home, your personality and in a sense being vulnerable.

While you're probably reading through this rant thinking "wow... she's really passionate about this" well guess what, I am! I want everyone to be able to experience a fun, in-home session at one point in their life. Don't let little imperfections like a dent in the wall, cracks in the road or an unraked front yard stop you from capturing memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Originally JoAnna & Eric had agreed to do an in-home session which I was super excited about. However, there were definitely moments where there was a little bit of fear that JoAnna & Eric's home wouldn't "photograph" nicely. I said STOP RIGHT THERE. Nothing is meant to be perfect and neither is your home and that's what makes it yours. Despite a little bit of nervousnesses, JoAnna and Eric decided to move forward with their cozy in-home session. Once I arrived I was introduced to their incredibly adorable dog, Remy. Which if you know me, you know I love dogs so of course he was going to make a cameo during their session.

During these types of sessions, we really aim to go with the flow. While we may have a little bit of inspiration, for the most part we walk around and decide what may look good. Typically, in-home sessions are a bit more on the intimate side since it is in such a vulnerable and safe space. I am all for being able to get cozy, crack open a few drinks, go lay on the bed, etc to make sure that you both feel as comfortable as possible. We mainly just focused on making sure that JoAnna & Eric felt good and got those cozy vibes that they were looking for which I think we nailed! I had such an amazing time and always feel so honored to be invited in my couples homes and have them trust the vision that we put together.
