Taylor & Jonah


When I tell you that this has to be one of my favorite sessions I have ever done... I mean it. While of course I am in love with every couple that I get to photograph, there is something about this day with Taylor and Jonah that just still makes my heart swoon.


I actually met Taylor back in 2021 when we were both shooting a wedding together. If you want to check out some of Taylor's work, just click here! After initially meeting we shortly discovered that we shared a lot of the same ideas and our personalities meshed so well. It was as if the universe was telling us that we NEEDED to shoot together, so Taylor then asked me if I would want to do a photoshoot with her and her husband, Jonah. Of course I hopped on the opportunity and said YES! Taylor & Jonah are originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but moved to Detroit, Michigan recently due to Jonah's job. What was the most important for Taylor & Jonah was to have more documentary style photos. They really wanted their photos to look lived in and be fully immersed in their environment which I loved.

So one winter day, I made my way over to Downtown Detroit to meet up with Taylor & Jonah at their apartment. Let me tell you guys... their apartment was next level beautiful. The large windows brought in so much natural light and it was decorated to perfection. I'm seriously debating asking Taylor for her help to decorate my home because I can tell you my home does not look like this haha! Upon entering into their home, I was greeted by their two French Bulldogs, Brooklyn and Mojo. These two were so adorable and cuddly that they even have their own Instagram accounts. Both Taylor and Jonah love sharing a bottle of wine together, so of course we just had to crack one open. Shooting in their apartment felt like shooting in NYC and it felt oh so right. We basically ran around their apartment and I had them do things that they would normally do. During in-home sessions, I typically will prompt my couples to do certain things and help them out any way that I can. For Taylor and Jonah however, I had to do little to no prompting at all. They both just moved naturally in front of the camera and for the most part everything they did was picture perfect (pun intended). We then moved into the bedroom where we took a few more cozy shots of them on the bed, cuddling with their pups and enjoying their well organized record collection.

Aside from taking photos in their beautiful home, Taylor and Jonah really wanted to get some photos in front of Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers. Jonah works for the Detroit Tigers and they are pretty much the reason why him and Taylor moved here in the first place, so naturally we had to document that. We grabbed Brooklyn and Mojo and headed downstairs to the streets of Detroit. The weather was getting a bit chillier and dark, but we didn't let that deter us from our goal! We made it to Comerica Park and were able to soak up some of that Detroit pride, ya know? Throughout our time walking through the city, I found so many photo-worthy spots that we just had to stop at. If you've ever had a session with me, you may notice that I have trouble knowing when to stop. I just get inspired by so many different things and I just HAVE to take a photo of it. Well, that seems like a rather good problem to have... no? I left this session with Taylor & Jonah feeling better than ever and so eager to get home and edit these. These types of sessions seriously bring me to life and I am so excited for how these turned out.
