Becky & Thomas
A while back I blogged Becky and Thomas' engagement session at Cranbrook House and Gardens in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. If you haven't read that blog, I highly recommend you do! Just click here. I actually grew up playing softball with Becky so I was beyond excited when they reached out for me to photograph their wedding.
Getting ready & first look
Once I arrived, everyone was finishing up getting ready and putting on their final touches. Becky looked absolutely amazing in her dress and don't even get me started on her bouquet.. I just about died. After everyone had finished getting ready, Becky and Thomas went downstairs from their hotel to do their first look. The first look can always be an intimate and emotional time, so I always come prepared with a box of tissues... not really but now that I say that it might be a good idea.
When it comes to first looks a ton of couples get super nervous.. I mean rightfully so. You have been waiting for this moment and it finally has come. Your heart is racing, your palms are sweating and it can seem like the world is moving a million miles per minute. Just remember that your first look moment or really any of your photos in general are supposed to represent you. Don't feel like you need to act a certain way just because a camera is there. Being yourself is 100% better than faking it for the camera - trust me. As Thomas anticipated the reveal of Becky you could tell there were a flood of thoughts crossing his mind. However when the moment finally came and he saw his beloved bride-to-be everything else didn't matter. The waterworks came, they hugged and it really was such a special moment for the both of them. I was so touched to be able to capture such special times.
fall church wedding in michigan
Once everyone had collected themselves, it was then time for us to head to the venue for their ceremony! Becky and Thomas got married at this really cool & unique church, the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Michigan. This venue was unlike any other that I've seen before. Rather than the alter being at the head of the building, it was in the shape of a circle with the pius surrounding the middle. After saying their vows and I do's the two were officially married and everyone was beyond ecstatic. Becky and Thomas actually chose to do a bubble exit as they left their ceremony, rather than their reception. They wanted to make sure that everyone was going to be there, so it was a great addition to ending their ceremony on a very high note. One of the most important things that Becky wanted captured on their wedding day was everyone riding the party bus. So you best believe I went on there looking to capture a good time. I made sure to take photos of everyone taking some shots and I may or may not have sneaked in a shot... You know what though, I am there to make sure you have a good time so you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes!
portraits at people for palmer park
The first stop was People for Palmer Park here in Detroit, Michigan for their wedding party photos. It was blazing hot that day so we made sure to be efficient when taking our portraits. We made sure to just soak up every minute while we were there and soak up all of the good weather, even it felt like 100 degrees. As we were about to leave, one of the groomsmen met someone in the parking lot of the park. After speaking for a bit, come to find out that this gentleman offered up the trunk of his really nice car for us to take some photos on. Of course this wasn't an opportunity we could pass up, so we hopped into the bed of the truck and took some photos and you know what? They turned out pretty darn good!
Portraits were done, so it was time for everyone to hop back on the party bus to head to the reception! Becky & Thomas had their reception at the same location where they got ready, The Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomfield Hills, MI. For the grand entrance of their reception, Becky and Thomas decided to switch roles. While Becky wore Thomas' jacket, Thomas ended up wearing Becky's veil and it was just a funny and sweet surprise for all of the wedding guests to witness. Of course we did the typical cake cutting, speeches and first dances that many people choose to do on their wedding which is always incredibly beautiful and touching. As soon as everyone was ready, the band turned it up a notch and really got the party started. Everyone began dancing left and right and really stepping out of their shells, which hey I'm here for! Since Becky, Thomas and I didn't get to have any golden hour photos, I was able to sneak them away from the reception for a bit to take a few night shots. Flash photography has been something I have been loving to do more of in my sessions and to be honest.. these photos turned out incredible. We ended the night with some more dancing before packing up my bags and heading out.
I absolutely loved being there for Becky & Thomas and being able to capture such wonderful memories for them. Oh and if you loved this Fall Church Wedding in Michigan, then you're going to love this Country Club Wedding.
Photos By Gayle does more than just take photos of people. Rather, it is capturing moments of LOVE and HAPPINESS. Singing to the skies, dancing in a field, smiles that hurt because they’re so big.
