Ashley & Justin
A few months back I was in the infamous sin city, Las Vegas, for some photoshoots! While I was there I had met up with a photographer friend of mine and we decided to do a shoot in Death Valley which isn't too far from where we were. This blog is all about this fun California Couples Session in Death Valley.
California Couples session in Death valley
Ashley and Justin are the kind of couple that their chemistry just radiates through the camera. We actually found them through Instagram and they are very clearly no strangers to being in front of the camera. Normally when it comes to photoshoots, I help the couples decide on what to wear just to help fit the vibe that we're going for. However for this session, Ashley really wanted to choose the outfits which ended up working PERFECTLY. They both wore all jean outfits and looked so amazing and definitely fit the vibes that we were going for in the shoot.
Death Valley is the hottest, driest and lowest national park and is located in Eastern California. So like I was saying... SUPER close to Las Vegas, really only a 2 hour drive or so! Death Valley is definitely a destination location and I recommend everyone putting it on their bucket list of places to visit. The valley holds so much character and ranges in towering peaks, gorgeous wildflowers and gorgeous sun that grazes the miles of land within this entire area. It truly is a breathtaking experience and wish everyone to be able to go here at least once.
There was a point where Ashley broke out her good ol' bottle of Gentleman Jack that her and Justin wanted to shoot with and it completely fit the vibe. I am always down for my couples to bring fun props to their shoots and honestly can help set the tone of your session and help you ease a bit of nerves. The power of props is SO real and highly recommend talking with your photographer about different props that you can bring - they seriously can make or break your shoot sometimes!
If you ask any photographer you know that one of our biggest frenemies is lighting. Lighting no matter what can truly make or break you photos and you have to prepare for almost anything. Whether it be direct sunlight, overcast, rain or night you have to be able to think on your feet and be equipped to handle any and every lighting situation. In Ashley and Justin's case, towards the end of their session the sun had completely set. We were in the middle of Death Valley and the sun was gone... in total darkness. Yes - a bit freaky if I do say so myself. Even though we were faced with the sun being set, we were left with the most GORGEOUS blue hour. So naturally we had to take advantage of such beauty and take some blue hour shots of them. Oh and if you didn't know, blue hour occurs when the sun has set beyond the horizon. In result of this, you're left with the most beautiful blue-ness to the sky and is honestly a moment that I feel not enough photographers take advantage of.
After packing up my bags, saying my goodbyes to California and heading back to Las Vegas I can truly say it was a breathtaking experience. Ashley and Justin were such a fun couple to work with and I would 10/10 definitely would do again. I am always up for an adventure and love when my couples are able to have fun, let loose and see the vision that we're trying to create. So be on the lookout for the next time I'm traveling because I may or may not be looking for models and those models could be YOU!
