Dawn & Aaron
When I say I'm obsessed with travel... I mean I'm OBSESSED. It's seriously one of my favorite things to do which is why I tell everyone under the sun to send me just about anywhere. Trust me, I'll be happy. A while back I was planning a trip with my girlfriends over to Pheonix, Arizona to do some exploring/sight seeing. Of course knowing me, I took this as an opportunity to go to Arizona a few days early and squeeze in a few shoots. I took to Instagram (which if you don't follow me, what are you doing? Click here) to do a model call! After a bit of circulation, Dawn and Aaron volunteered to get in front of the camera and I was SO excited. These Arizona desert wedding portraits were next level amazing and I am kicking myself for waiting this long to share them.
arizona desert wedding portraits
Our vision for these wedding portraits was to do something very bohemian, laid-back and soaking up the beautiful Arizona desert. Thankfully enough, Arizona is not short on deserts so picking a location for these portraits was a piece of cake. We found a park in Pheonix, Arizona that was exactly what we were looking for so we hopped in the car and made our way. Obviously Arizona is very hot and it's actually not the first time I have been to Arizona. I blogged a beautiful couples session at Papago Park a while back. So if you haven't had a chance to read that, click here! Since it is so hot, we had to make sure that whatever Dawn and Aaron wore would withstand the Arizona heat. Luckily for us, we found just the trick.
For these wedding portraits, we were able to rent out an insanely beautiful dress thanks to Lovely Bride in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dawn wore it beautifully and definitely gave off those boho type vibes we were going for. Once we arrived at the park we noticed that it was completely empty however this was good for us. Less people = less people I have to edit out. This beautiful Arizona desert park was surrounded by some beautiful greenery and cacti, don't worry though we were careful.
Dawn and Aaron are no strangers to being in front of the camera and it truly showed throughout the entire session. Their chemistry was unmatched and they truly let it shine throughout the entire time we were shooting. You may notice the absolutely insane sunlight peaking in through the clouds which made it all the more beautiful. Seriously someone pinch me because I must be dreaming. Halfway through the session we added a bit of spice to Dawn's dress... aka SLEEVES! Even though the dress was strapless, adding these sleeves gave the illusion that the dress had sleeves which completely changed Dawn's entire look. This is the perfect option for anyone wanting to have a bit more variety with your wedding attire... just add or remove your sleeves lol. Since adding these sleeves, we took a few solo portraits of both of them to commemorate these amazing looks.
blue hour wedding portraits
Before we knew it the sun had set beyond the horizon and we entered into blue hour. Blue hour is a special and unique time when the sun has gone below the horizon but there is still light out. The sky turns this beautiful blue/purple shade as it begins to get darker and it's one of the prettiest sights I have ever seen. If you want to see more example of blue hour, check out this engagement session I blogged by clicking here! Blue hour is completely underrated and I am determined to have it make its mark. The sky begins to look like cotton candy but be warned... it gets dark relatively quickly once blue hour begins. Knowing this information we hastily took the remainder of these wedding portraits before packing up to leave. No one wants to be caught in the desert at night, right?
I am grateful for this experience and I had such an amazing time with Dawn and Aaron. The Arizona desert will always have a special place in my heart and I can't wait until I am back there again. Which if you're planning on getting married somewhere in Arizona or anywhere for that matter... *cough cough*... maybe invite me!
